International Biosciences Launches X Chromosome Testing
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 10 February 2014 – Leading, UK-based DNA testing provider, International Biosciences, launches X chromosome testing. This test is the latest test to be added to its existing portfolio of relationship DNA testing services.
International Biosciences already offers the most comprehensive range of accredited relationship testing services. These tests include sibling testing, aunt/uncle (avuncular) testing as well as grandparentage testing. Explaining the aim of such tests and how they are used, a company representative states “relationship tests set out to confirm the biological relationship between test participants. Our clients are in doubt as to whether or not they are true biological relatives and request one of these DNA test to clear their doubts”. X chromosome testing is the most recent relationship test to be added to the range of tests already offered. The test was added in order to be able to meet the many diverse relationship queries of clients requesting such tests. The company explains that when people request evidence of any biological relationship between alleged relatives, they have a very specific aim in mind with regards to what they wish to find out.
Elaborating further on the launch of this new test, International Biosciences explains “the X chromosome test is carried out between female test participants, often siblings, who wish to determine whether they have the same father or different fathers”. Whilst the test is very accurate, the company explains that in order to be able to offer the X chromosome test to its clients, the females taking part need to be sure as to whether they have the same biological mother. This is because if the test participants have the same mother, the X chromosome test can only be carried out if they have sample of the mother.
X chromosome testing samples are collected by means of the home sample collection kit provided by International Biosciences after the client has made their payment. With regards to sample collection, the company’s laboratory representative explains that “we encourage clients to submit samples collected using oral swabs. This is because laboratory analysis of exfoliated cheek cells collected on the swab provides higher success rates than other samples. This said, we can carry out this type of DNA test with various other samples, such as hairs or nails, if the client cannot provide us with an oral swab”
The company offers X chromosome testing results in 17-21 working days, a longer turnaround time than for its other tests such as paternity testing and maternity testing of which results are ready the next working day following receipt of samples at the laboratory. In terms of accuracy, International Biosciences describes the X chromosome test as being a very accurate test and females with the same biological father will have identical X chromosome profiles. Commenting further about this test, International Biosciences states that “there may be cases of 2 mutations on the person’s profile which would mean an inconclusive result where we cannot conclude the test participants have the same father nor exclude it – this is very rare however and the incidence is less than one case per hundred. If the females tested have 3 or more mismatching markers then it will definitely be an exclusion – in others words, that they do not share the same father”
